According to the mental health charity Mind, approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. So, with this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week taking place from May 13-19, we’ve chosen to make our Mental Health course May’s Module of the Month.
Since its launch in 2001, the Mental Health Foundation’s Mental Health Awareness Week, has raised awareness on a range of topics including stress, relationships, loneliness, altruism, sleep, alcohol and friendship.
This year, with your support, they hope to reach more people than ever!
This awareness should extend to your workplace, as Health and Safety legislation clearly states that employers have a duty of care to their employees, ensuring they work in environments where the risks to their health are properly controlled and that they’re protected after returning to work after a sickness absence if they’ve become more vulnerable due to their illness, a protection that extends to issues that affected the employee’s mental health.
It’s important that organisations actively take responsibility for supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of their teams and ensure every individual receives the support they need.
As part of our Workplace Wellbeing range created in collaboration with Liggy Webb, a leading behavioural skills expert, our Mental Health module explores what an organisation can do to help individuals in the workplace who are suffering with poor mental health, including how open conversations about mental health can be facilitated, how to deal with an individual’s return to work following time off and tips for managers to better support their staff.
