Elder abuse affects the health and human rights of millions of older people around the world, with 1 in 6 experiencing some form of abuse in the last 12 months. So, in recognition of World Elder Abuse Day, a UN observance day held annually on June 15, we’ve selected our Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults (Eng & Wales) course as June’s Module of the Month.
Studies show that abuse and neglect can cause long-lasting damage to a person’s physical and emotional wellbeing, which is why it’s everyone’s responsibility to protect vulnerable adults from the risk of harm.
Yet, the rates of abuse tend to be higher for older people living in institutions, than in the community.
Our Safeguarding Vulnerable Adult module aims to offer learners a better understanding of the principles behind safeguarding and the impact of local legislation on procedures and processes, as well as supporting individuals to recognise the signs of abuse, understand how to respond to and record a disclosure of harm, and how to report their concerns to the relevant authorities.
